The Show Must Go On Award honours individuals or groups who have made a significant contribution to the Imperial Theatre as a live performance venue. In the great show business tradition of “the show must go on” these people have persisted in spite of obstacles to bring performers and audiences together in this beautiful historic theatre. September 19 - 100th Anniversary Concert - 7:30 pm. Thursday, September 19th, 2013, will mark exactly 100 years since the Grand Formal Opening of Imperial Theatre in Saint John. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we will be hosting a concert featuring local talent, designed to mirror (with 21st century adaptations) the concert that was held on September 19, 1913. The event will feature a vaudeville-style variety show, representing a broad cross-section of local talent. September 20 - Avner the Eccentric - 8:00 pm. people from all over the world flock to study with one of the world’s greatest living vaudeville performers, a brilliant clown who has been tickling audience funny bones for more than four decades. You may remember him playing the title role in the film, “The Jewel of the Nile” or perhaps you’ve had the chance to see him on Broadway. Luckily for us, Avner makes his home just across the way in Maine and has agreed to make a special stop in Saint John to help celebrate the Imperial’s 100th birthday, with both a performance and a workshop. Avner’s gentle, clever comedy will have you laughing long after you’ve left the theatre, whether you are nine or ninety. October 3 - 6 - Fog Lit Festival - Fog Lit Festival Inc. is a new and exciting not-for-profit community based festival for writers and readers of all ages! Fog Lit Festival brings aspiring and established writers and readers of all ages together to foster literacy while celebrating a love of reading and writing. Fog Lit will offer a modern all inclusive family festival, providing an exciting lineup of mainstream events, workshops and writing contests for all ages to attract a more general audience, appealing to diverse interests with a bilingual component. Fog Lit Festival will include many authors of interest, mainly featuring New Brunswick authors.
October 4 - Classic Albums Live presents Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” - What were you doing the first time you heard, “Go Your Own Way” or “You Make Loving Fun”? (Don’t worry, you don’t have to tell your kids.) Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 hit album has sold over 45 million copies, gone platinum 19 times, and given us some of rock’s greatest classics. October 5 - Buffy Ste Marie - Buffy St. Marie has moved people around the world with her music for more than four decades. Songs like “Universal Soldier” and “Up Where We Belong” are known by millions. Artists ranging from Elvis Presley to Courtney Love have covered her material. This rare concert gives Saint John audiences a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see and hear this iconic artist in an intimate setting. October 6 - Nathan Rogers - 7:30 pm Imperial Theater - Some say he was born into it as the son of Stan Rogers, but for sure Nathan has earned his place in the music world with years of studying, performing and touring. With one foot planted firmly in folk music’s traditional roots and the other reaching into its dynamic future, Nathan Rogers is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, throat-chanter, percussionist, revivalist, and innovator. For his Imperial Theatre debut, Rogers will be bringing his own original songs as well as some folk classics. Tickets – $30
October 12 - Charles Ross: One Man Lord of the Rings- Imperial Theatre - 8:00 pm - Imperial Theatre. Charles Ross had the audience laughing the instant he walked onto the Imperial stage with his One Man Star Wars Trilogy, and this season the self-proclaimed “professional geek” returns with another ambitious undertaking, his One Man Lord of The Rings. With just one man, no set, no costumes, no props – can he really take us on the epic adventure through Middle Earth? There’s only one way to find out. Matthew Good is one of Canada’s most recognizable and relevant record artists. Also known as an avid blogger and activist, Matthew Good is passionate and outspoken about many topics including mental health, human rights, US Foreign and Covert Policy, and Anti-Militarism. He is an advocate for the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Rideau Institutes Ceasefire Initiative, and a supporter of Amnesty International. October 24 - Irish Rovers: Farewell Tour - Imperial Theatre 7:30 pm. This is it, after fifty years The Irish Rovers’ are saying farewell to the road. Whether you remember yourself as a child crying for the unicorn who didn’t make it onto the ark, as a young adult roaring along to “Wasn’t That A Party” or as a nostalgic ex-pat singing along to “The Black Velvet Band”, chances are that the Rovers have always been part of your life. In 2013 this group will play at the Imperial for the last time. October 25 - IBalysto Steelband Silent Auction and Concert - IBalysto Steelband Silent Auction and Concert. Friday, October 25 at Harbourview Highschool. Doors open at 7 PM for Silent Auction viewing. Concert starts at 8 PM. This 30 piece, high energy Caribbean-style steel band has been selected to represent Canadian steel bands at the 2014 Holetown Festival in Barbados in 2014. The group will be performing a wide variety of pop, retro rock, reggae, calypso, soca, r&b, latin and soul music at the concert. It launched the writing career of Grammy and Academy award winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked, The Prince of Egypt, Enchanted).
